Question 1

Is my image uploaded to a server?

Accepted Answer

No. Conversion uses the Canvas API locally in your browser.

Question 2

Will PNG look better than the JPG?

Accepted Answer

No — conversion cannot add back detail lost when the JPG was compressed. PNG is lossless from this point on, but the starting quality stays the same.

Question 3

Why is the PNG larger?

Accepted Answer

PNG is a lossless format, so it stores more data than a compressed JPG. That is normal.

Question 4

Is it free?

Accepted Answer

Yes, free with no sign-up.

Question 5

Is JPG the same as JPEG?

Accepted Answer

Yes — JPG and JPEG are the same format with a different file extension. Both work in this converter.
